I’m so blessed by the extreme romance Jesus Christ makes available to every Christian. When I understand Christ’s love for me, and if I accept His offer to be my spiritual Husband (1 Corinthians 6:16,17; Ephesians 5:31,32), giving Him a heart full of submission and respect (Ephesians 5:22-33) is the greatest of joys. In the face of Jesus’ crucifixion on my behalf, I am overjoyed to present Him the beauty of a gentle and quite spirit (1 Peter 3:1-6). As I remember the work my Messiah did for me throughout His life, the temptation by Satan and His brutal death on a cross, I know that I am privileged to serve my Lord (Revelation 19:7-9). After everything the Son of God endured so He could receive the wrath for my sin upon Himself, I open His word and find Him writing love poems to me (The Song of Solomon). No wonder the angels of Isaiah 6:2,3 covered their face and feet, what a passionate display of love for the Lord:
2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.3 And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!"
In light of 1 Corinthians 6:16,17, and Ephesians 5:31,32, all the verses in the Bible referring to marriage become a picture of the Christian’s relationship with Christ. If I make sure to remember God is giving me the gift of an amazingly loving relationship I don’t deserve, then each time I look at the picture, I can thank Him for the immeasurable joy He brings to my life. I can realize it isn’t me doing Christ the greater favor by loving Him, though it does please Him, but that Jesus is the one giving me the greater gift as He allows me to be in the relationship, and makes those wonderful loving feelings possible. If I truly love Christ, my acts of love toward Him give me great pleasure, and Jesus is the one who makes those interactions between us possible, not me. If I imagine my life without Christ as my Husband, all the love I would lose, it is clear that Jesus is giving me the greater gift each time I do something loving for Him.
I am privileged to live my life of service to my beautiful Husband (Romans 6:22), knowing He sees and shares in everything I do for Him, receiving my love and offering forgiveness when I fail. God is the greatest treasure a person can have in their life, we all get to be His pretty, pretty wife, “…as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So shall your God rejoice over you,” (Isaiah 62:5).

Proverbs 31:23 says, “Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.” The husband represents Christ and the wife represents the members of the Church, who are passionate to please their Husband by lovingly making Him known. :)
